Calling ALL Graduates! Please submit your name, grade/degree, school, and graduation date to the Education Department.  The information may be given to Tamara Westbrook or Johnny Lawrence, or left in the Education Department mailbox in the office by May 15, 2007.

The Sister Thea Bowman Foundation has four scholarships for low-income African-American single mothers with up to two children under the ages of 10.  The selected candidate will attend the College of St. Mary in Omaha, Nebraska and will live in a dormitory designed to house mothers with children.  The Foundation will grant $30,000.00 over a period of four years on behalf of each student.  In return, the College of St. Mary will match that grant with an additional $24,000.00.  Interested candidates should contact Mary Lou Jennings, Executive Director of the Sister Thea Bowman Foundation at:

2nd Annual Bookbag Drive

The Education Department will be hosting the 2nd Annual Bookbag Drive.  Our goal is to collect at least 200 new bookbags by the beginning of August.  The bags will be filled with school supplies and distributed to young people in the community at our first Back-To-School Extravaganza on August 11, 2007.  The extravaganza is a collective effort of the Education Department, along with Community Services and Health Ministries.  Additional information will be posted on this event soon.

We'd like to thank everyone in advance for their generous donations towards this important education, community service and health ministry initiative.
